Does Alopecia Areata Cause Thinning Of Hair Follicles?

Sir, i had developed alopecia areata with multiple patches on my scalp in september 2015... within almost 4-6 of proper treaent hair was restored completely on the bald spots . But that left an impact on the density of my hair. It was too dense and thick before the disease.. But now its just normal.. And i am afraid i might go bald gradually in days ro come. Did my hair follicles thin as a result of the disease?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If scarring alopecia develops or areas with scarring inside normal skin occur those may permanently cause areas of hair development to lose ability to regrow and that can cause thinning but recurrence of hair growth in your cases predicts better prognosis and outcomes and hopefully will stay this way. Also use zinc, calcium, selenium, vitamin C and E supplements for better hair growth.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
