Does Primolut N Help In Avoiding Pregnancy?

I got unprotected sex as my husband was under the alcoholic influence.I did not want to get pregnant.I had taken 2 tablets of Primolut N right after the intercourse.Does it will help me for not getting pregnant? Or if No,then what should I do now?Should I take any contrceptive pills?

Hallow dear,

You have taken the right step. Though Primolut N is not prescribed usually as emergency contraceptive pill, it contains norethisterone which is a progesterone.

Some of the usual emergency or post-coital contraceptive pills like Postinor 2 also contain progesterone group of medicines.

These pills should give you protection against the pregnancy. May be due to the withdrawal of this medicine, you will; get early withdrawal bleeding for which you need not worry.

However, if you miss the period, wait for 8-10 days before performing urine pregnancy test and/or ultrasonography to confirm the pregnancy as these tests are not conclusive before that.

Hence forward, please switch over to regular birth control pills instead of relying on the emergency contraceptive pills.
