Does Pantoprazole Cause Breath Odor And Hemorrhoids?

My 52 year old husband is currently taking pantoprazole and naproxen. He has a history of esophogeal cancer in his family and has struggled with acid reflux since he was in his twentys . I have noticed a fruit-like breath odor and in the past year he has had a lot of problems with hemorrhoids. He has had banding done and now his doctor is recommending surgery. These problems began at the same time he started taking the pantoprazole. Could there be a cause effect here or just coincidence?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Fruit like breath can happen in rare cases but hemorrhoids are not seen with Pantoprazole. Endoscopic biopsy from lesion can make your exact diagnosis, consult gastroenterologist for that, eat healthy like fresh fruits, juices, steamed vegetables and amla, aloe vera, basil, turmeric etc., antioxidants are good and multivitamin for a week in month. Do yoga and meditation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
