I started taking Metformin on cycle day 27 of this cycle. My cycles are average 27-29 days. I still haven t started my period (now on cycle day 30) and got a negative hpt this morning (fmu). I m wondering if metformin can cause a delay when only taking it for such a short amount of time, or if it is more possible that I could be pregnant. My husband and I have been ttc for over 16 months now.
Hello, Thanks for sharing your health concern with us. Metformin is unlikely to have caused the delay in the current menstrual cycle. However, you seem to have taken the home pregnancy test a little early. HPTs read well when performed 3-7 days after the missed period with a fresh early morning sample of urine. I would ask you to repeat the HPT after a couple more days. Else, you can go for the estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres. A trans-vaginal sonogram can be performed a week after the missed period to clarify further and help plan further management. Hope this helps.
