Does Metformin Cause Dark Blood Spotting?

Hi I m a 38year old female n I ve been taking Medformin for about a month now to treat my PCOS, today I noticed after I had a bowel that I had dark blood on the toilet paper. I ve been wearing a panty liner because my cycle has been off lately n when I went to the rest room earlier today the panty liner had quite a bit of dark blood smeared on it, could this be a side effect from the Medformin?
