Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have recently been diagnosed with degenerative discs and bone spurs and am taking OTC Ibuprofen 600 mg about 4x a day and Hydrocodone 7.5 also 4x a day, I am wondering if this is causing me to be constipated and if I should start taking a stool softener? Also is there any difference in OTC Ibuprofen and what I would get if I got a script?
Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can. Yes, both brufen and hydrocodone may cause it. You should consider switching painkillers and you should try with changing lifestyle and dietary habits. You need to increase fiber intake. Good fiber sources include bran and other whole grains found in cereals, breads, and brown rice, vegetables such as brussels sprouts, carrots, and asparagus, Fresh fruits, or dried fruits such as raisins, apricots, and prunes Beans. Also, you should exercise regularly. Moving your body will keep your bowels moving, too. Second, you may at times need to try a laxative. If your teen has constipation problems, talk to your teen's doctor before trying laxatives.
I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time. Kindly regards. Wish you a good health
