Does Escitalopram Cause Lethargy?

Pt was alert and oriented about 40-45 minutes ago, or was given 10 Min of escitalopram... pt’s blood sugar is 326, BP 136/68, Resp 20, HR 70, and at 1pm, Pt became very lethargic, wants to lie down, will respond to a few questions...is this normal side effect of this medication?

Escitalopram can cause drowsiness and fatigue especially on the first dose. This is known as first dose effect and doesn’t seen on subsequent doses. Nothing much to worry about it. Drink plenty of water. If the symptoms persist, consult a physician as cause might be something else.
