Does Azithromycin Interact With Tacrolimus And CellCept?

Yes, hello....I had a kidney transplant 1.5 years ago and am on Tacrolimus and Cellcept immunosupressants. I became sick after flu and pneumonia 23 vaccines which includes a not so far terrible sinus infection. Dr prescribed Azithromycin 5 day dose pack. I read many places where Azith... creates problems with immunos, but not sure if that means specifically Tac and Cellcept. Please advise...Thank you! YYYY@YYYY

Hi & Welcome.
Yes, Azithromycin may interact with these immunusupressives.
Taken together with Tacrolimus it can increase the risk of an irregular heart rhythm that may be serious. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. You should your treating doctor if you develop sudden dizziness, light headedness, fainting, shortness of breath, or fast or pounding heartbeats during treatment with these medications.
Whereas taken along with CellCept (Mycophenolate) it may decrease the blood levels and thus the therapeutic effects (immunosupression) of CellCept. You may need a dose adjustment if you have been taking CellCept and are starting treatment with Azithromycin. Contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen or your condition changes during treatment with these medications.
Hope I could answer your query.
Regards.
