Does Allopurinol Cause Strong Odor In Urine?
Hello Doctor, First, I am 80 years old and developed gout about five years ago for which I take allopurinal. Some time after the onset of the condition and taking the medication I began to notice my urine having a very strong odor. I don't know if the two things are related to my problem or not. I've mentioned this to my doctor, but he kind of side-steps the question. Do I have cause for concern? Thanks, Fred

1. The odor of urine is not common side effect of Allopurinol but some patients have reported it.But it is not a cause of concern.
In my opinion you take plenty of water it may help in reducing it.
