Do Tb Medications Cause High Esr And Crp?

I, 43 yr. old woman suffering from bone TB since 20th may 2011. I am taking rcinex 450+300 and mycobutol 800 mg and benadon 40 mg once a day. I also take 70 injection of streptomycin 75. From 13th june I have severe joint pain. I am taking various pain killers and omnacartil 20 mg steroids but no relief. After three month my report is : RA factor is negative. ESR is 105. and CRP is 9.90. Mycobaterium antibody IGG is 1.11. My question is is it side effect of any medicine? When I am taking so many TB antibiotics then why my ESR and CRP is so high? Vinaya

Hi,

High EST is due to anemia in TB. Actually, nutritional supplements are needed in TB treatment to avoid this feature. High CRP is indicative of inflammation in body. Here, it indicates joint swelling. Joint pain &swelling is not due to side effect of TB drugs.

It can be due to two causes viz., malnutrition with calcium and vitamin D deficiency / TB infection itself invades joint. Treatment needs to be planned after determining the basic cause. I would advise for a consultation of a TB specialist for getting proper advise, guidance and treatment for your health problem.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
