Do Sugar Pills, BP Medication And Heart Medications Interact With Sulfameth Tablets?

I would like to know if sugar pills, blood pressure meds, and heart meds interact with sulfameth/trimrthoprim 800/60 tabs. The names of the medicines currently taken:glimepiride 4mg daily/ pravastatin 40mg daily/diovan 320-25 daily/metformin 500mg 2 times a day/ Asprin 81mg daily. metoprolol 50mg two times a day. I need to know if these medications are safe to take with sulfameth/trim

Hi,

Welcome to HCM,

I can understand that patient is suffering from High Blood pressure and Diabetes and Lipid issues hence all these medicines.

Interaction between different molecules could be significant and some may be minor one.

1 sulfamethoxazole increases levels of glimepiride

2 valsartan and trimethoprim both increase serum potassium. Significant.

3 aspirin, sulfamethoxazole. Either increases effects of the other

4 pravastatin will increase the level or effect of valsartan.

5 sulfamethoxazole will increase the level or effect of metformin

There may be more interaction minor ones.

You just need to closely monitor the effects and if it is essential to take the antimicrobial.

Your doctor will know if there is requirement of using this drug and he/she will closely monitor as this is given for short period.
