Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My wife is using sizodon 0.5, prodep 20 and indaral 10,she is now feeling weight gain? Please inform me its proper use and side effect. Problem: she went to doctor with a problem that when she does anyting, she continuously thinking that she has done properly or not? Her full concentration goes on that particular task, She wants to come out of that. Please suggest in a precise manner
I have gone through your query and I can understand your problem. Your wife is on Sizodone (risperidone), Fluoxetine 20 and Propranolol 10 mg per day. The symptoms she is having like repetitive thinking whether she has done a task properly or not appears to be obsessions (part of OCD), though proper evaluation is needed to make diagnosis. She loses a lot of time in these thought processes. Obsessions are recurrent persistent thoughts that dominates in mind and cause distress. Obsession of doubt is common occurrence. Medicines especially SSRIs are used.
Fluoxetine is a SSRI drug and is effective in such symptoms. It is known to cause a little weight gain but that is not so significant so there is no need to fear from fluoxetine. Risperidone is known to cause significant weight gain. Propranolol is not associated with weight gain.
As she is having complaint of weight gain request her for dietary change (low fat and refined carbohydrates) and exercise. If no improvement occur and symptoms persist then visit her psychiatrist for dose adjustments of drugs.
Thanks.
