Do I Need To Remove The Unaffected Ovary?

I have a 2.4 cm cyst on my right ovary. It has gotten larger by 1 cm since Jan. My dr wants to remove the cyst AND the ovary he thinks that I should have the other ovary removed at the same time. He thinks that they are serving no purpose. I am 55 yrs ols and peri/ menopausal. I had a blood test and my estrogen level is less than 70. Do you suggest I keep the other ovary so I don t go BANG INTO MENOPAUSE with all the symptoms at once? I am also on LOW DOSAGE estrogen & progesterone

Hi,

Your Doctor suggested surgery considering your age. Either you need a regular follow ups with further tumor markers tests or surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. B. Radhakrishnan. Nair, OBGYN
