Did Blood Donation. Hematoma Appeared After Inserting Needle. Severe Bruise, Swelling, Developed Elongated Knot. Solution?
hello i gave a blood donation 2 days ago. when the phlebotomist inserted the needle a pretty large (golf ball size0 hematoma appeared almost instantly and the blood flow was slow enough to make her move the needle from side to side and deeper into my arm trying to get more flow. she let about 5 minutes expire before asking another nurse to examine my arm. at that time they pulled the needle out , put a band aid, gauze, and ice filled glove wrapped with tape and said i could go home. a severe bruise and swelling lasted until today , but there is still some pain a little tingling and the vein area has developed into a hard elongated knot. is there any concerns for the well being of my arm in the future.
Hi, There might be having hematoma due to counter puncture of vain. Nothing to worry, apply ice pack 2-3 times a day for few days. If there is risk of infection, go for one antibiotic medicine course after consulting your doctor. There is no chance of having proble in future due to this. Ok and take care.
