Diagnosed With ADHD, Seizures In Parietal Lobes. Done EEG. On Melatonin. What Is The Reason?
Hi. my son has been diagnosed with month with ADHD combination type. He is very inattentive and hyper both in school and at home. He is having trouble in school. He is 3 years old. The MD wanted to do an EEG to rule out seizures since he often stares into space and doesn't respond to us. We did the EEG today and haven't gotten the MD report yet but the tech told me he is definitely having seizures in the parietal lobe (several dozen in 45 minutes while awake.) He doesn't sleep through the night, often waking up as many as 3-4 times in a night and we have had to help him sleep with 3mg of melatonin at bedtime. He only gets 8 hours of sleep at night, interrupted, and will not nap during the day. Could the seizures he is having be causing the ADHD symptoms? Could it be that he is not ADHD at all? I have 2 other children with ADHD in which medication as been extremely effective. Both of them are teenagers in which grades have gone from D's and F's to A's and B's in just 3 weeks on the medications. Should I have and EEG done on them as well. So far as I know, Seizures do not run in the family.
In some forms of epilepsy transient changes in behaviour can be seen which may have been diagnosed as ADHD in your son under question. It shall be better to give him appropriate anticonvulsant medication and observe.
Though very unlikely but you can get EEG done for your other two sons. In all probability the reports should be normal.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Wishing your son an early recovery.
