Diabetic. On Metformin, Insulin. Having High Levels Of PPBS. Reason?
I have Type 2 Diabetes . I take Metformin tablets (1000 mg. each) twice a day and I m on an insulin regiment of 60 units per day. My fasting numbers in the morning are in the neighborhood of 94-101. This morning I ate a small breakfast of Life cereal with milk, and a glass of milk. I tested my blood glucose two hours later and my number was 346. My numbers are similar to this each day. What might be causing this huge swing?
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Let me know the type of insulin which you are using.
Your blood sugar fasting is controlled as you are using metformin and insulin.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ endocrinologist and should go for thorough check up.
Your postprandial sugar must be in controlled range as complications due to diabetes is associated with high postprandial sugar.
You should take DPP I'VE inhibitors along with 50/50 insulin on written prescription.
You should also take voglibose three times in a day.
You should also follow dietary changes as suggested by dietitian.
Take care,
Dr. Mayank Bhargava
