General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for the query,
It is important to get a proper clinical review. An infectious process has to be excluded. A complete blood count and a C reactive protein level could be important to diagnose an infection. An inflammatory process like arthritis could cause swelling and pain. It is also important to exclude a tumoral process like a bone tumor. It is imperative to get a consultation form a doctor. a needle aspiration could help detect the content and an X ray could be very useful. Mind regards
