Dark Patches On Inner Thighs, Next To Scrotum.Prescribed With Daktarin Gel Over Infected Area But Dark Patches Remain.Safe Remedy?

I've had dark patches on my inner thighs, next to scrotum, for many years. Earlier in the beginning they were small red circles on the thighs, slightly swollen and they used to itch severely. So i consulted a skin specialist and he diagnosed the area. He guided me to use Daktarin Gel over the infected area, which i did for several months. Though the itching subsided, the dark patches still remain. Quite a few months ago these dark patches started to smell like rotten garbage which forced me to use a thin non-viscous hand sanitizer over them. I think it had alcohol in it's contents. it was a little painful but it did wonders. The bad odor has completely vanished and the patches too have become less dark but they are not fading off completely. I am not using this hand sanitizer anymore right now. There's no bad smell or itching (at least as long as the under thighs are sweat free) in these patches now. I want a complete escape from this dark patch scenario. Any good remedy?

Hi,
Welcome and thanks for posting your query to HCM.
It appears from your problem that you are probably suffering from the problem of Fungal infection of the area known as "Tinea cruris" with secondary infection over the same and on crural folds. These appears as small dark circular areas and later become larger map like figures. This is due to heat, humidity or certain factors related to hygiene as well as due to obesity. As the fungal infection becomes higher it leads to further infection by bacteria and so appears the mild discharge as well as the bad smell over the same area. Do the following:
1. Maintain hygiene properly, wear cotton clothes and cotton undergarments, changed two times daily.
2.Trim your hair regularly.
3.Do saline compression by putting normal saline soaked towel multiple times a day.
4. Put some good antiperspirant powder in little amount.
5.Kindly do not scratch otherwise can lead to further infection
6. Reduce your weight if on overweight side.
This is common problem so need not be worried about the same and can be managed by simple methods mentioned above. But at this juncture it is better to meet a dermatologist who an give you proper antifungal and antibiotic treatment so that the things can be treated completely.Hope this information will help you.
Wish you good health.

Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic
From your history you had a fungal infection over the groin which cleared with treatment. But you had this dark patches even before the fungal infection.
I think the dark patches you have could be frictional melanosis or acanthosis nigricans. Do you have obesity ? While walking if your thighs rub against each other it can cause darkening. Weight reduction is the best treatment. Even infection like erythrasma can cause discolouration. So I advice you to consult a dermatologist for proper evaluation an treatment.
