Could You Please Advise The Right Approach For Removal Of Adenoids?

Hi Doctor,

My son suffered from adenoiditis 2 weeks back. It was the first time he was diagnosed for Adenoiditis. He was put to Augmentin antibiotic though IV for 4 days and then oral (T-clamp) for 6 days. Now he has again developed same symptoms for enlarged adenoids such as mouth breathing mostly while sleeping and speaking nasal. We conducted the X-Ray and as per the report it's adenoids (Grade 4). The report says:

Presence of a lobulated soft tissue density in the posterior nasopharynx suggestive of adenoids.
The visualized airway is narrowed.
The visualized cervical spine is normal.

The pediatrician has prescribed Metaspray for once a day at bed time for a month.

Could you please advise what's the right approach and the surgical removal of adenoids is necessary.

Hello,
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.

It is not necessary to remove adenoids for just one or two infections.
We recommend adenoidectomy, if the child have frequent infections , extensive sleep disturbances, difficulty in swallowing.

The x-ray reports are typical in all the adenoiditis.
This does not necessarily mean to remove adenoids.

In fact, adenoids are lymphoid tissue, they help in fight against infections.

Thus nothing to worry now and continue what your physician prescribe.

Hope this helps.
Please write back for further queries.
Wishing you good health.
