Could The Thick Lining Of The Uterus Be The Cause For Concern?

Hello.

I had a D&C 2 months ago and bled continously up until 3 days ago. The bleeding stopped then started again yesterday. I feel like the bleeding that started was due to my period, and I have some symptoms aligning with PMS, but I have been monitored by my OBGYN, and was told if bleeding continued to call them. I did call them yesterday and had an appointment today for an ultrasound just to make sure things were o.k. According to a recent blood test, no pregnancy hormones. The ultrasound today showed nothing like cancer, fibroids, etc. according to the doctor, however the doctor was concerned that the lining of my uterus was a little thick. I started researching it today and found it may be a cause for concern.

Last blood test showed normal thyroid levels as well, I have no pain, so what could this mean? Again, I started what I think is my period yesterday, would this be affecting the lining, or would the lining be thinner?

The dreaded subject: Even though the doctor didn't see cancer or growth, could there be cancer cells undetected by an ultrasound that could be causing this thickening? I'm really getting scared. Please help me with answers.

Thank you

Hello and thanks for the query.

It would help me if I had your age and the reason for a D and C.

If a d and C was done for bleeding, then the tissue collected must have been sent for a histopathological examination. This will rule out any cancer. A thick lining may indicate hormonal imbalance [most common], polyp or cancer.
Bleeding will decrease the thickness of the lining. Usually a change in the pattern of hormone secretion leads to improper shedding of the uterine lining and increases the thickness.

Please do not worry about cancer as it is rare. Hormones are a more common reason for causing such symptoms. Ask your doctor for the histopath report if available. It will help rule out cancer and formulate treatment.
Hope this was helpful.
Thanks for using HCM.
Have a good day.
