Could The Oral Sex Be The Cause For Acute Tonsillitis?
I have been diagnosed with acute tonsillitis twice, I have engaged in oral sex within the last two weeks. Can I assume that s the cause? Both times I tested negative for strep. Also will the z-pack and steroid treatment, treat any bacteria infection regardless ?

Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Praveen G's Response
Hello, Welcome to HCM,
The oral sex can lead to infection of the oral cavity as the lining epithelium of the genitals and the oral cavity is by squamous epithelium and the infection can spread in either direction.
Involving in oral sex can cause acute tonsillitis which should be addressed properly otherwise it may leads to sequels.
As you are on antibiotics and the steroids it will helps to control infection and the edema caused by the infection. Thank you.
