Could The Intake Of Aspirin Results In Heavy Periods?
I just started an aspirin reginmen (81mg) daily. I'm 54 and premenapausal. I didn't have a period for 3 months and had a period again this week. It was really heavy. Did the aspirin make it heavier, or maybe the fact that I didn't have one for 3 months. Oh yes, I'm not sexually active so I know that I'm not pregnant.
I understand your concern and it is not completely unfounded. Aspirin inhibits the action of platelets. Platelets are responsible for helping in preventing excessive blood loss by forming clots. Aspirin prevents this and so people taking it may bleed more than expected.
Since this is the first episode, I suggest that you visit your physician and get aspirin replaced by other option like ticlopidine etc. Check your next cycle and note the amount of flow. If it is still excessive, get a gynec examination to look for other causes like cervical or endometrial lesions.
I hope this was helpful. Thanks for the query and I am always here to help if you have any further questions. Have a good day. Dr Madhuri Bagde Consultant Ob gynec.
