Could The Pulmonary Fibrosis And Pneumonia Are Due To Deficiency Of Vitamins?

Hello, I'm asking on behalf of my mother. she has had high blood pressure since she has been in her mid 40's, she is now 64. The doctor has been able to control it through medication. She has also had some issues with a slow thyroid and was put on medication as well. Around the begin of Oct. 2013 she started to have shortness of breath and felt very fatigued. We originally thought she may have pneumonia, but after a body scan they found the start of pulmonary fibrosis on the lower half of her lungs. The doctors did several tests for possible causes...autoimmune diseases...etc but all of her tests came back normal. The only thing that came up was that her kidney wasn't bad, but was not functioning at the level it should. I keep bringing up that it may be a vitamin deficiency as a suggestion, but I'm not sure. Any ideas? Thanks!

I am so sorry to hear about these problems that your mom has. For sure, vitamin deficiency has not yet been documented as a possible cause of pulmonary fibrosis. Most cases of lung fibrosis have no clear identifiable cause and it is not strange that most of the investigation returned without any clear cut abnormality. I will suggest that you all follow up with a pulmonologist for appropriate care to manage this condition and delay onset of complications for as long as possible.
