Could Swollen And Tender Gum Be A Side Effect Of The Pneumonia Illness Or The Medications?

I was just released from the hospital following treatment for pneumonia. I was treated with vancomycin, azithromycin and cefempine given via IV, then switched to Zyvox and Levofloxacin PO. During the last 4 days, I ve noticed that my gums are very tender and swollen. Could this be a side effect of the illness or the medications?

Hi dear ,

As per your query you have swollen gums after treatment of pneumonia with various medicines . The symptoms you mention in query are probably due to side effect of taken for treatment of pneumonia . As now your are discharged from hospital and you probable stop taking medicine the swollen gums will get back to normal by its own in few days . I would suggest you to maintain proper oral hygiene . Consult oral pathologist for proper examination f condition doesn't get better and to rule out causes like gingivitis due to poor oral hygiene . Doctor may perform proper oral prophylaxis .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
