Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom is 82. I was visiting her just now and noticed she is a little short of breath but all of the veins in her right arm has popped out up to her elbow. Only medical problem is H/O hip fracture 6 months ago. Hypertension which is controlled with Lisinopril 5 mgs 2xday. I held her second dose because her blood pressure has been falling thu evening. At bedtime 100/55., pulse 83. I gave her a Bayer asprin and put her to bed. Could this be cardiac?
Yes, this could be cardiac. Also I wonder about something in the chest blocking the veins in her arm so they are swelling up. A mass in the upper lung on the right could possibly do this and also cause some shortness of breath. A blood clot in that general area could also cause these symptoms. The falling blood pressure is also a concern. Get her to the emergency room so they can do an assessment and figure out what's going on. She needs to have a good examination of her heart and lungs, her oxygen level checked, a chest x-ray, and an EKG done. Hope this helps.
