Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Could Random, Frequent Throwing Up Be Due To GERD Or Acid Reflux?
My grandson throws up once sometimes twice a day, but does not have any other symptoms. No fever, no upset stomach. Sometimes he throws up when he is eating, sometimes he is playing, sometimes just sitting and watching tv. Could this be GERD or acid reflux or something else.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history about your grandson vomiting infrequently, sometimes awhile eating or playing or just sitting and watching TV; there are no other symptoms like fever or upset stomach. As per the history, although you have not mentioned the age of your grandson, the problem looks to be lax lower esophageal sphincter. This leads to sudden vomiting the moment the pressure in the stomach increases and even a slight pressure can instigate vomiting. I would advise you the following in such a situation: Consult a Gastroenterologist first to get the upper GI Endoscopy and esophageal manometry tests to know the exact cause. Secondly, to get Barium swallow test. This will give direction to the further management. It may be administration of prokinetics as per the age and weight - Domperidone may help. Small frequent meals. All such efforts may help to have a normal life for your grandson.
