Could Low Iron Level Caused By Heavy Period Lead To Severe Fatigue And Headaches?

I went to the dr last Thursday due to extreem fatigue and bad headaches. They said my iron was low due to an unusually heavy period. It was 23 and they started me on iron pills. I already have gastroparisis so I'm afraid the iron will cause additional problems there. However, I'm more concerned with me not feeling like getting out of bed right now. Is 23 low enough to make me feel that bad? How long will it take me to start feeling better?

Hello,

your iron level is low. The normal values are from 60-120 mcg/dL.
When you should start to feel better depends on your particular situation. Normally, it may take from a week to a month (after you start your iron supplement) before you start to feel better. I suggest you to take an another blood test to see if the iron dose you are taking is enough to recover your iron level considering that you are not feeling much better.
