Could Long Term Exposure To Mold Be Dangerous?

I have mold (fungi) in my bedroom, and it has probably been so for several years. However, this bedroom is cleaned at least once a week, so I believe the mold quantity is small; however, when lifting the mattress (which is in direct contact to the floor), the characteristic smell of mold is somewhat strong.
How do I know whether this is toxic mold? What problems can it cause? I have headaches and I frequently sneeze, and have the symptoms of allergic rhinitis. I have read that long-term exposure to mold cause memory loss brain lesions; is it true, even if at a very small level?
