Could Lethargy And Lack Of Interst In An Elderly Man Be Psychological Issue?
My dad is 86yrs old. He and my mother live in a comfortable setting by themselves, supported by a maid. On this annual visit with them, I have noticed that he has become very lethargic. He has lost interest in most things around him since his retirement many years ago. Would a pyschologist be able to decipher whether his current lethargy and lack of interest is a psychological issue or an issue caused by physical discomfort caused by old-age related ailments? If psychological, is there a treatment that would not require regular pyschological counseling, for I am afraid he would not be able to sustain.
