Could Drinking Alcohol Worsen The Condition Of Diabetic?

how can I help my husband with his drinking problem. He is a diabetic he also has blood clots in his legs he takes prednisone, warfin, insulin . His age is 72. Can you tell me how alcohol can effect him with these medicines. He drinks around 2 beers a day an 4 8 once glasses of red wine a day.

Dear madam I can understand your concern.
first thing about alcohol it contains a much as 7 kcal/ gm,that means it is equal to 1 gram of fat or oil so your calorie load will increase.
second when it comes to interactions alcohol will increase activity of some enzymes in your liver which make your drugs like warfarin broken down very quickly than expected so they will not work for long time as doctors expected.

patients taking alcohols will have vit b deficiency so they will develop nerve related problems like diabetic neuropathy very quickly.

pts taking alcohol can not recover quickly from hypoglycemia caused by your insulin at some times
At his age it's a bad choice .....
