Could Drainage Of Nose And Loss Of Hearing Be Due To Allergic Rhinitis?

My 71 year old boyfriend just went to an allergy doctor and so far knows that he has "rhinitis" (sp?); will find out more later. He did not tell him that he dips OFTEN! Could this be his problem? He has drainage, hearing problems, and is tired a lot. Thanks for your attention.

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Yes, chronic allergic rhinitis if not treated can cause nasal drainage, hearing problems etc.
Allergic rhinitis causes structural changes in nose, sinuses and ears.
So on long run, allergic rhinitis can cause sinusitis which in turn cause nasal drainage and weakness.
So better to consult ENT doctor and start fluticasone nasal spray, Montelukast and fexofenadine combination at night.
Steam inhalation and warm water gargles 5-6 times a day are also beneficial.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your boyfriend. Thanks.
