Could Dizziness Be A Sign Of Labour?

I m 39 weeks pregnant. I am measuring 44 weeks and my baby is estimated to be weighing about 9lbs. I ve been having contractions off and on for three days and today I feel very dizzy and nausous. I don t drink anything but water and eat fairly healthy. Is the dizzy ness a sign of labor or something I should be concerned about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Dizziness can be a sign of labor. Other symptoms are intermittent contractions, water breaking, fluid or blood coming from the vagina. It is indicative that the cervix has started to soften and thin and widen (dilate) in preparation for labor. Symptoms that require emergency medical care are severe shortness of breath, seizures, and dizziness with a fever.

You are advised to get connected with your treating doctor or health care provider so that your symptoms can be managed when required. During this time your FHS (fetal heart rate) matter, so you need to be under care and observation.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
