Could Dizziness And Headache Be Due To Concussion After Hitting Head?

Hello, I am a 19 year old female, I have anemia and frequent migraines. I have also had a few really bad concussions. One was stage 3 and was unconscious for 4 minutes my question is, I bumped my head tonight right in-between my mastoid processes and I instantly had symptoms of a concussion. I had a bitter/metallic taste in my mouth dizziness , head pain, and felt tired. I did not bump my head very hard. Is it possible that I still could have gotten a concussion from this?

Hello!

Thank you for your question on HCM!

Your symptoms seem to be caused by a head concussion. Sometimes it is not the fact that how hard you hit your head, but it may be in a vulnerable region, responsible for vital functions.

The metallic taste can be one of the concussion symptoms.

I recommend you to have a lot of rest and take some painkillers. I would also advise you to treat your anemia, after consulting with your attending physician to find the proper therapy based on the type of anemia.

I would also recommend avoid further traumas in the future, especially in the next days. A second head trauma, even minor can be very dangerous for your brain, because in this period the brain is trying to regain its function and its autoregulatory mechanisms are not functioning very well.

Hope to have been of help!

Best regards,

Dr. Aida
