Could Deeply Furrowed Tongue Be Due To Vitamin Deficiency?

I have had a deeply furrowed tongue for 3 months. It is very painful to eat anything with moderate seasoning. I have excellent oral hygiene. Is this possibly a vitamin deficiency? I am 53, female, BMI 22, 5 ' 2"; try to eat a healthy diet. Had a RNYGB 5 years ago.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you are suffering from a condition known as Fissured tongue that causes deep furrows on the tongue and pain on eating seems to be due to infection in the furrows leading to inflammation which can be due to food lodgement in the furrows..
Fissured tongue is commonly genetic in origin..
There is also a possibility that burning sensation is due to vitamin B12 or iron deficiency..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation can help in confirming the cause and treatment can be planned according to the diagnosis..
As of now you should start gargling with a numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine especially during meals to prevent burning sensation..
Take Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation and pain..
Take multivitamin supplements..
Warm saline gargles will help in cleaning the debris as well as reducing inflammation..
Suck ice and do cold water rinses.
Take a soft diet and avoid hot and spicy food..
Maintain a good oral hygiene..
Drink plenty of water..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
