Could Chest Pain After An Ankle Surgery Be A Side Effect Of Tylenol?

Hi. My 16 yr old daughter had ankle surgery last week. She could not tolerate the Lortab for pain so Dr. changed her pain med to Tylenol 3 yesterday. This medicine seems to be better on her stomach, however, she complains with her chest hurting when she lays down now. Could this be from the crutches? or reaction from the new medicine? Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

Lortab is a more powerful pain medication(tylenol and hydrocodone combination) that could adequately address the pains of your daughter. Unfortunately, she failed to tolerate and was put on a less potent pain medication-Tylenol. So the cause of the pain is not a side effect from tylenol as she has been taking it since the procedure but rather caused by it low potency in addressing her pain. Talk to her doctor about this so that he can try other more potent medications.

I hope this helps. I wish her well
