Child With High White Blood Cells, Taking Augmentin With Persistent Fever. History Of Umbrical Hernia. Suggestion?
My daughter is 31months and on she has been having fever blood test showed that white bloodcells were high and was given anti malaria drugs and amoxyllin.and after taking these drugs on the second day she complained of head ache and the doctor changed the drug to augementing. And she is on her second day of taking this but she still has persistent fever.she has also umbrical hernia .what is the problem please help
Hi mom,
This fever is unrelated to umbilical hernia which is often a harmless & self limiting condition.
It is good idea to get some blood tests done -esp CRP & MALARIA film & antigen.
She also needs to rule out urine infection. Anti malarial drugs & or antibiotics are better prescribed after confirmation of diagnosis.
Please discuss with your pediatrician or GP .
Hi,
Thank you for your query.
Your child seems to have a bacterial infection as the wbc count is high.
Continue the medication as advised by your Pediatircian.
Give plenty of oral fluids to maintain hydration.
I advise you to do complete urine examination and culture to rule out the urinary tract infection.
Umbilical hernia is not related to the current issue.
Fever may take time to subside and be in follow up with your Pediatrician.
Hope I have answered your query.
