Child With Frequent Vomiting And Bowel Movements, Stomach Pain, Fever. Cause?

My 4yr old started vomiting on Thursday early morning. Explosive vomiting all day low grade fever. Shows no interest in food would will drink fluids. Vomiting stopped fever gone Friday but she ended up passes two bowel movements light gray almost clay colored with a pungent smell. After the two movements she had very watery stool with stomach pains before she would have to go. Now her stool is pale yellow or beige colored. This happened friday and Saturday. Today Sunday she has returned back to vomiting and watery stool and low grade fever still complaining of stomach pains before vomiting or having to go to the bathroom. No one else seems to be sick in the family. And my 4yr old does not go to school or childcare. She seems to always be the healthy child never getting sick, very puzzled by this mystery illness.

Hi
Thanks for your query,
Your child is having features of acute gastroenteritis which is mostly viral in nature but could be bacterial or protozoal in nature.
I suggest you to get your child assessed by pediatrician. Some basic tests like CBC,stool routine examination and culture is needed.

Give oral rehydration solution after each loose stool.give coconut water, lemonade, buttermilk, curd, boiled potato, banana, rice porridge.

Give lactobaccilus for 2 to 3 days.
For vomiting antiemetic like domperidone can be given in prescribed dosage.

Wishing your baby good health.
God bless...

Pediatrician Dr. E Venkata Ramana's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Your child is having an episode of acute gastroenteritis which may be due to a virus or a bacteria.
Usually this happens with some contamination by oral route.

The mainstay of treatment is to monitor and maintain her hydration.

Give sips of oral rehydration solutions like Pedialyte, coconut water, lemon water to prevent dehydration.

Monitor her hydration by urine output, skin turgor, and her activity.

Stool should be examined for routine and for culture to know the type of infecting organism.

Consult your Pediatrician for the examination of your child and for prescription of probiotics and antibiotic if required.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
