Hello Jocelyn
Your nervousness is quiet genuine. But be relaxed ortho treatment doesnot hurt, initially it is slightly with discomfort but with time it will become very easy. Now a days transparent as well as ceramic braces are available which look very nice and so there will be no worries about what other people will think.Be relaxed and go ahead with the treatment.

Hi,

Thanks for asking the query,

Orthodontic treatment can be done at any age,I would suggest you to visit to an Orthodontist, he will take an x-ray , lateral cephalogram , photograph of face, impressions to determine what type of treatment is needed.
Your age is suitable for treatment, and placement of braces will not cause any harm.

Depending upon the diagnosis treatment can be planned.
And for some who are afraid to put a metal braces making it visible and more embarrsing ceramic brackets with cosmetic fixed braces can be used.

Hope this helps out.

Regards...

hi Jocelyn
thanks for asking your query

crooked teeth needs an orthodontic treatment, its duration depends upon the degree of mal alignment
Your tooth and gum structure has to be examined with diagnostic equipment such as X-rays, scans or CEREC technology.
Once your dental form and teeth are mapped, the full extent of misalignment or malocclusion can be identified. Treatment plans is then made
If braces are to be fitted, your mouth will be prepared and the braces will be fabricated according to specification.
Alternatively, if Lumineers or veneers can solve a minor tooth gap or crooked tooth, then your teeth will also be prepared and possibly shaped before the Lumineers or porcelain veneers are bonded to your teeth.

In some cases, the tooth structure impacts the facial form, expressions and smile. Some people's confidence is affected by their crooked teeth causing them to avoid smiling or to feel self-conscious about their teeth. Treating misaligned teeth not only helps your dental health, but also builds self-esteem for better relationships and life opportunities, and improves the beauty of your face.

braces do not hurt at all when they are applied to the teeth, so there is no reason to be anxious about the placement appointment. There will be mild soreness or discomfort after the orthodontic wire is engaged into the newly placed brackets, which may last for a few days to a week. Most patients experience some discomfort the first 4 days to a week after their braces, expanders, and/or wires are placed and after a wire adjustment and/or an activation appointment. Your lips and cheeks may need one to two weeks to get used to the braces. Each person will gradually adapt to the discomfort associated with the orthodontic tooth movement. Over the counter pain relievers (Advil/Motrin work well) normally taken for headaches plus rigorous regiment of salt water rinses can be used to greatly ease the discomfort.
hope you will find this helpful.
thanks

Hello there ,

Thanks for writing your query,

There is definitly no age limit for the orthodontic treatment but there are many other factors that has to be consider before treating orthodontic cases like periodontal status of the teeth , spacing between the teeth and etc.

Since you are of highschool age you can go for orthodontic treatment consulting a orthodontist who can better examine your oral status and decide the treatment plan.

if there is little or no space available for the tooth movement , extraction of the premolars is considered to create space.

You may need to get an OPG radiograph and lateral cephalogram done for you which will show the exact position of the tooth, consult a dentist and get the treatment done .

i hope this helps ,

take care.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
As you are in your younger age, orthodontic appliances can correct your teeth within short duration of time.
Initially, the appliances can hurt your gums as well as mucosa.
But,once you get adapted,pain relieves.
Dont't worry about what others thi.nk,you can go for transparent/ceramic braces to avoid bad outlook.
Please do consult an orthodontist for further reference.
Take care

Hello,
First of all remember that the treatment is not painful. Orthodontic treatment may require extraction of teeth depending on the availability of space in your oral cavity. Your Orthodontist would be taking OPG and Lateral Ceph x rays to determine your problem and then plan a treatment for you. Now there is softwares available with Orthodontist which will show you the post orthodontic treatment result so that you can get a better picture. Orthodontic treatment usually takes 2- 4 years depending upon the severity of the problem
Consult an Orthodontist at the earliest.
Regards
