Child Pooping Clear Liquid. What Could Be The Cause?

My twelve year old son was playing outside and he thought he had pooped a little in his boxers. He came in to clean himself up and said it was a clear jelly like liquid, this happened again about half an hour later. No pooh just clear liquid, he says he didn t even pass wind.

Hi there,

Thank you for choosing healthcaremagic.

You mentioned that your 12 yr old son has had 2 accidents of incontinence of stool recently.

At times, this could be due to an infection i.e. gastroenteritis, where his bowels are overactive or if he has problems with chronic constipation and has impaction of stools then he may have overflow incontinence which means since his gut is full of stool, he maybe having accidents.

I would like to know whether he recently had a fall or injury of any sort, or has had any weakness in his legs, urinary incontinence, is limping while walking or has had any sensation loss or numbness in his legs, has he had severe back pain recently or does he wake up in the middle of night with pain in his back.

If you have noticed any of the above, then you need to take him to the ER or his pediatrician rightaway without any delay.

If he is having frequent accidents or his constipation is not taken car of, then I would suggest for him to see his pediatrician.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.

Regards,
Dr. Sumeet.
