Child Having Swelling Over The Strictures Due To Deep Cut On Forehead, Is Behaving Normal And Playing. Hematoma?

Hello, My 20 month old pulled a table over on himself and got a very deep cut on his forehead , near the bridge of his nose . We took him to the hospital and the doctors put 4 stitches in. This was about 38 hours ago. It has slowly started swelling since, and now it is quite big, about half the size of a wallet and shaped the same way. It goes from about the middle of his eyebrows laterally, and almost his full forehead vertically. It protrudes out about 3/4 of an inch. Could this be a hematoma? Is it normal? Should we take him to the hospital and get it drained? He has been acting normal, and behaving normal, even playing a bit today. He knows he s hurt, but he s taking it well. He is a little whiney now and well, we re just paranoid, because he s our little guy. Should we take him back to the hospital?

hi keith.stjean,

A small hematoma generally does not present any problem in the sense that mother nature takes care. what you are describing though appears quite big. It would be prudent to get the same drained as it can take quite a bit of time for a large hematoma to get drained.

hope this helps
