Child Having Fever, Stomach Pain, Low Appetite, High Heart Rate. What Else Other Than Fluids And Medicines Will Help?

Hi my three year old has a fever of 101.5 that has not broken after being given medicine for it, he complains of stomach pain, and refuses to eat or drink much. I ve been trying... His heart rate is very fast-I counted it for 15 seconds and there were 40 beats in that 15 second time. Besides trying to give him fluids and get some more medicine in him (which is difficult because he won t open his mouth), what else is there to do?

Hi
You are clever - intelligent to note the heart rate and you counted! Heart rate of 160 per minute is high for your child of 3 years. If he is not taking fluid and medicines by mouth, you GET THE CHILD ADMITTED - Emergency Service in nearby hospital to get intravenous fluids. High heart rate can be a sign of dehydration and fever. Fluids are must - and since the child is not taking orally, we have to give by the vein.
Good Luck

Hi.. the heart rate in the children upto 100 beats per minute is normal..
since the child is having fever, there will be increase in the heart rate, and respiratory rate,,
continue with the given medications.., feed the child frequently in small amounts, because child may not eat at once..

Take care..
