Child Has Issues With Hard, Bulky Stools, On Myrilax, Has Stinky And Persistent Gas. Cause Of Concern?

Hello. My 21 month old has had issues with hard, bulky stools since she turned 1 years old. She is on myrilax daily to help with that but the doctor also told us to switch to soy at 18 months. There was no change with her stools and I had to keep up with the myrilax but now she has really stinky and persistent gas every day. Should I be concerned or do I need to take her to see a specialist? Thank you.

Pediatrician, Neonatology 's  Response
Hello I have gone through your complaints. Actually it is a normal phenomenon. It is normal if the child passes motion once in 3days. So if the consistency is hard and your child is passing regularly, then there is no need to worry about. If there is no fever then there is no need to worry about even though the motion is stinky. Just try to increase the fibre diet of your child ang give more water.
Thank you.good day

Pediatrician Dr. Synthyia Bhagat's  Response
Hi
Thanks for your query,
Constipation is usually diet related,
You should not five laxatives for long term as they have their side effects.
I suggest you to do dietary modifications.give her plenty of fluids.green leafy vegetables.salads.fruit.
In case symptoms persist then get her evaluated by pediatrician to rule out other causes as hypothyroidism, any fissures,

Your child will be fine
God bless
