Child Has Fever, Red Eye, Taken Amoxicillin. How Long Do Viral Fevers Last?
My 10yr old started fever on Friday. It goes Upto 103.2+. Medicines bring it down but it comes back once the medicine wears of. I took him to the doctor yesterday and she dud CBC which was unremarkable.she says its viral. He also has a very red eye which antibiotic drop did not help. She gave him amoxicillin . She doesn t want to stop the antiobiotic although she thinks its viral. It s Day 5 of Hugh fever and I am so worried. How long do es viral fever last? He threw up couple of times. No apetite. She wants me to call if he is not better by Friday.
Hi ,
Thank you for your query.
Viral fevers can last for 12 days too!.If your child has high fever along with non purulent conjunctivitis just see whether he develops any rash or lymph glands with it. It he has these fevers with very red lips then it might be a case of Kawasaki's disease which might warrant medical attention.Otherwise viral fevers should taper slowly. If fever persists go for tests for typhoid ,dengue, etc.Take help of your local pediatrician. Hope this answers your query.Wishing your child a speedy recovery.Have a nice day.
