Child Has Fever, Greenish Loose Motion, Advised Calpol, Zifi, But No Relief. Zifi Causes Stomach Upset?
Sir, my daughter is 2 yrs old. Since last evening she is having constant high fever of 102 to 104 F..loose motion grrenish watery stool..the doctor after examining her has advised calpol and zifi 50 mg...though she is continuing the medicines, no reduction in fever or improvement in stool...can zifi 50 okey the upset stomache? Why the fever is not reducing even after she has taken 4 doses of calpol?
The medicines prescribed for your daughter are fine. Any antibiotic takes at least 24-48 hours to act and hence you need to have patience.
Paracetamol (Calpol) will reduce the temperature but not make it normal. Once the infection gets controlled the temperature is going to come down.
You have to ensure that your daughter does not get dehydrated for which you need to give her plenty of oral fluids in the form of lemonade, buttermilk and coconut water along with ORS.
I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.
Hi
Thanks for your query.
Your child is having diarrhea which is mostly viral in nature but could be bacterial as well and takes few days to settle.
Most important is to maintain proper hydration.
continue with medicine as advised.
Give calpol every 4 to 6 hourly till fever is above 100F.
Do tepid sponging if fever is above 102F.
Give oral rehydration solution sip by sip after each loose stool. Also give coconut water, lemonade, curd, bolid potato, rice porridge
Watch for features of dehydration like lethargy/decreased urine output and in case you observe any get her re evaluated by pediatrician.
