Child Has Autism, Will Not Potty Train. Any Advice ?

Hi there my 3.5 year old son has autism and will not potty train. I have tried everything and nothing seems to work. I have tried sticker charts, money jars, taking him every 30 minutes, giving him a small treat if he goes, keeping him in underwear and still nothing. Most days he doesn't use the potty at all. He is very high functioning but for some reason he just won't train. Do you have any advice?

Hi,

Thank you for your query.

I can understand your frustration. However with some children it is a problem and the only solution is to keep persevering. Instead of trying various methods just take your son to the closet at an appointed time daily and make him sit for 5-10 minutes whether he passes motion or not. Reward him when ever he passes motion. Do not loose your anger otherwise he shall not heed your advice.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son all the best.
