Hi Luminita,

Thank you for your query.

You mentioned that the child is one year old and vomits after every feed. I hope the child is gaining weight adequately. The best course would be to see if the weight gain is as per his age and standards. If the weight gain is not adequate then some intervention shall be initiated. Otherwise, I would like to wait and watch. Trauma of being abandoned also manifests in children in varied forms.

You can give him some semi-solid to solid food to eat. Give small quantities frequently initially and gradually increase the quantity once he starts accepting.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing the child all the best.

Regards,

RKK

Pediatrician Dr. Sudha Shree Venkataraman's  Response
Hi

Repeated vomiting in a child needs to be evaluated.
The number of episodes per day/ his present weight/ presence or absence of lung signs- all these things should be looked into in any case of reflux.

If its just a reflux, without affecting his growth- medications can be tried. Usually medications like Domperidone with Lansoprazole will be given for a considerable amount of time. If it helps, he will be managed medically.
If he does not respond to medications/ his growth is hampered- then he must be evaluated in detail. First GERD (Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) has to be proven by milk scan or barium study and then surgical treatment will be advised.

So he needs to be seen and evaluated by a Pediatrician first.
Regarding his diet- all bland food items can be given.
After food/ milk- do not make him lie down immediately. Let him be active at-least for 30 to 45 min. When he sleeps, try to raise the head end of the cot (A pillow alone will not work).

Please do have an appointment with a Pediatrician.
Hope my answer helps you.
Best wishes.
