Child Diagnosed With Pancreatic Calcification In The Pancreatic Duct. Medication For Pain?

hello dr., My daughter aged 14 yrs has been diagonised with pancreatics calcification in the pancreatic duct. She has episodes of pain every 6 months for which she used to be hospitalised. But her recent ct scan report shows mutiple calcification in the pancreatic duct. Plz suggest medicines to dissolve the calcification and secondly to reduce the pain that occurs too.

Dear user,

Thank you for the question. Calcification within the pancreatic duct can be post-inflammatory (chronic pancreatitis) or idiopathic (i.e. without any apparent cause), but there is no medicine that can dissolve the calcium. A rare cause of pancreatic calcification is infection with a form of flat-worm known as schistosomiasis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schistosomiasis). Whether she has that or not will depend on where you all live and whether this worm is found in your area.

Do check her out with a specialist.
