Orthopaedic Surgeon, Joint Replacement 's  Response
Hi, thanks for writing to HCM.

Painful limp in a 5 year old boy suggests that he has got some problem in the hip joint (most propably Perthes disease) followed by the knee joint.

A detailed clinical examination along with Xrays of the hip joint as well as MRI scans help in staging the disease and further management.

The prognosis will be good in children around 5 years of age.

I suggest you to consult a Pediatric Orthopedic surgeon for evaluation and further management.

Hope this information is helpful. Good day
