Cause Of Pain And Heavy Menstrual Bleeding After Termination?

Hi, I had a termination mid January, everything went fine, I am now currently on my first period since then & I am in extreme pain, I feel like I m having contractions (yes I have a baby, I do know what contractions feel like). I am also experiencing heavier than normal bleeding, and very sharp pains near my belly button. Is this normal?

Hi,
I can understand your concerns. It is not normal to have pains especially if you never had it before during menses. I will advise you to get a urine HCG test again and a sonography of your uterus as it can be either an incomplete termination or another pregnancy. Feel free to contact us.

Internal Medicine Specialist Dr. Vijay Varma 's  Response
Hello, your history is incomplete, you did not mention about the mode of termination, is it medical or is it surgically induced and what is the period of gestation at the time of termination?I would suggest you to consult your gynaecologist, as early as possible because sometimes retained bits of placenta or contraceptives can also heavy bleeding. You may require an examination by your gynaecologist before starting the treatment. If everything is normal following examination, than you may be prescribed some antifibrinolytic agents to control bleeding. Hope i was helpful to you.
