Cat Scratch. Anti-rabies Vaccine And Shots Of Dpt Vaccine. How Soon Should They Be Given?
good day! my son had a cat scratch 5 days ago. his pediatrician advised to give him 5 anti-rabies vaccine shots. the vaccine is just too costly so we consulted a public heath center doctor instead so we can avail of the shots for free. however, the public health center doctor told us that it is sufficient that the wound be washed with soap and water and that my son had complete shots of dpt vaccine. he also told us that his son also had a cat scratch and he did not give him any anti-rabies vaccine. his son seems fine up to this day. we have been observing the cat and will continue to do so until 10-14 days after the incident. will it be too late if we have the anti-rabies shots 14 days after the incident?
It is advised to give the 5 doses of antirabies vaccination as they are safe and effective.
If you are not affordable, consult a government rabies clinic in your area so that the doctor will advise you on anti rabies vaccination.
And another thing rabies will not manifest immediately and it may present even after a few years, so don't take the chance and loose the opportunity to vaccinate him for rabies at present.
